Session Overview

The purpose of the GCD Writers’ Cohort is to cultivate and support developing writers whose goal is to produce resources that make, mature, and multiply disciples of Jesus.

Session 1. Why Write?

Jen Wilkin

This session will explore the motivations and purposes of writing, and the audiences for whom we write. Students will consider their writing in light of who God is and how they can reflect him to readers.

Session 2. What Makes for Good Writing?
Guest Coach: Jared C. Wilson

This session examines three components of good writing: 1) What is good writing?, 2) writing well for today’s readers, and 3) writing with Biblical/ theological competency.

Session 3. Writing for the Head: Saying what is true in a post-truth world.
Guest Coach: Barnabas Piper

This session explores how writers must pair the craft of writing with compelling arguments in order to be heard in the world.
 
Session 4. Writing for the Hands: Calling for the good in an internet-outraged society.

This session will form paths of writing that call for action and justice in a winsome and compelling way.

Session 5. Writing for the Heart: Crafting literary beauty in a listicle-driven world.
Guest Coach:
Trillia Newbell

This session unpacks how writers can write in beautiful and compelling ways that invoke meditation, worship, and true affections in the hearts of readers.

Session 6. Writing for Publication.
Guest Coach: Drew Dyck

The final session will explore how writers can connect with publishing outlets, and give behind-the-scenes details about working with editors and literary agents in the Christian space.


About Jeremy

Jeremy Writebol is the Executive Director of Gospel-Centered Discipleship, a ministry that publishes resources to help make, mature, and multiply disciples of Jesus. He is also the lead campus pastor of Woodside Bible Church’s Plymouth campus in Southeast Michigan. He is the husband of Stephanie and father of Allison and Ethan.

Gospel-Centered Discipleship exists to make, mature, and multiply disciples of Jesus through online articles, paperback books, and developing writers through workshops and mentoring cohorts.


Who is this for?

  • Writers looking for a masterclass in producing content for Christian publication, both online and in traditional publication settings. This cohort will help writers understand and grow in the craft of writing as well as connect writers in community to develop their voice alongside writing peers.


What do I get?

  • 6 live monthly video calls with your small group, 2 hours of teaching and Q/A (via Zoom Meeting)

  • 1 60-minute coaching call with Jeremy

  • A monthly mastermind call with 2-3 peers

  • Evaluation of written content/proposal/portfolio by cohort/GCD Editors.

  • Workshop with other writers (via Slack) to develop movement/growth in writing for web/ publications/books.

  • Access to video sessions, to rewatch or
    if you missed a call


What do I invest?

  • $165/ month or $900 one-time payment. (USD)

  • Participation on live video calls for at least 5 of 6 months

  • Engagement in ‘Slack’ online community, sharing questions, ideas, and goals

  • Read books or articles Jeremy recommends for the sessions


The Steps

1. Apply and pay registration before the group is full (12 spots). 

2. We set you up in your online group, where you can ask questions and connect (via Slack.com). 

3. Start 1st video session on Aug. 22nd, growing with Jeremy and the team over 6 months.
